HIGH WALLS

Monthly Archives: May 2011

I’ve been really into yellow recently, I’m not sure why, maybe its because I have been trying to find a nice mustard cardigan and all I keep finding is pretty yellow items instead!

1.  I so do not need a new wallet but this Handmade Wallet from cottonpurr is so whimsical :)

2. Flower brooches are a new interest of mine, this lovely daisy looks like it wants to come home with me, don’t you think?
3. Isn’t this lamp AMAZING! I so wish I owned my house so I could put it up in my hallway.
4. I simply LOVE these Lambswool English Rose Fingerless Gloves and my hands have been getting cold….
5.  Such a sweet Yellow cardigan!

What do you think of my new format for oh etsy posts? Do you prefer individual photos and links or a group wrap up like this?
Let me apologize in advance for the random and sheer stupidity of the content of this post.I don’t know if I can call this a recipe. It barely qualifies really. It’s actually quite insane. No, its totally insane. Let me explain: My housemate always has ice cream cake for his birthday, its tradition. Yesterday while discussing cakes and food, we joked about ice cream and he made a comment about making a cake out of Maxibons. In case you haven’t experienced the wonder that is a Maxibon, basically it is an ice cream sandwich with biscuit on one side and dipped in chocolate on the other. They are amazing. Anyway, our joke was mainly because we do have a habit of buying these ice creams in bulk, and someone joked about stacking them on top of each other to make a cake….Challenge accepted.

You are looking at 8 Maxibons and 4 layers of creamy goodness! I used cookies & cream ice cream as the ‘frosting’ and as cement to hold the whole thing together. It was gloriously disgusting. I’m a little ashamed of how delicious it was. I think my fingers are still frozen from handling so much ice cream, and I still feel quite ill, but it was totally worth it.

1.  I so want to try this Homemade Twix Bar recipe! Might have to wait until I’m not trying to eat healthy :(
2. Check out this great tumblr ‘Things Organized Neatly’, its full of lovely pictures. I especially love the colour grouped pictures.
3. How adorable are these wooden animals by designer Karl Zahn! But at $49 a pop, they might have to go on the back burner a while.
4. I am in LOVE with the art/figures of Cat-Rabbit (plus who doesn’t love a name that puts two animals together ;) ) I’ll be saving my pennies for one of my very own!
5. ‘The Most Amazing Halloween Costume Ever’ - I’ve heard this story before, but I love the illustrations someone has done to go with it :)
6. I couldn’t be more excited that Kahlah featured my necklace in her Friday Favorites!
7. this Super cute Polariod Series by Elizabeth Soule - I want to try something like this!
Tomorrow is my housemates birthday, and one of the presents I got him is a print by Lauren Carney. I only recently discovered her work in a store on my street. Her works are gorgeous, and best of all: She’s a local artist!

This is the print I bought my housemate. I was lucky enough to find the right sized frame in the thrift store for $4!

Ever since I saw her stuff, I was hooked! There are 3 that I am pining over at the moment (seen below), ‘The Kraken’ (the first one), ‘The Fleet’ (the third) and the very first one of her prints I ever saw, but don’t know its name (the fourth)… Click to go to the photo source/etsy page.

If you like what you see, and frankly, how could you not?! You can find her in these places:
Gosh I love her work so much, its so simple and elegant yet adorably cute at the same time. I’ve been inspired to pick up a pencil and get start drawing again. It’s been too long!
I receive so many packages in the mail. It’s a serious addiction. It’s at the point now, where if I come home and there’s NOT a package waiting for me I’m super disappointed. It’s not even like half the things I buy are expensive, or even for me. But I still get a couple every week on average. My mailman must know me by first name by now!

This week has been a quiet week for mailbox goodies, but today I came home to find this little treasure waiting for me (in a hot pink post bag no less!):
I’ve been waiting for this set of stamps to arrive for a couple of weeks. I have some designs for my shop that require some lettering and now I can finally make a start on them! Yay! This set was another ebay find, and I love it! I love the teeny little stamps and the adorable wooden box they live in. I think I just love anything small and cute…. plus I love wooden toy sets…

I’ve been thinking of ways to interact and promote my blog and my shop and I’ve noticed there are a lot of people using Twitter.  I’ve never been a big fan. I’m not against it for any particular reason, its just never really caught my attention. What is your take on Twitter? Are you for or against?

Speaking of promotions, I will be drawing the winners of my giveaways tomorrow, so last chance to enter!

So, on Saturday I went on an epic adventure to find a plant nursery. One of the problems with being new to a big city is I don’t know where anything is. That doesn’t stop me, but seeing as Google directions are almost always wrong at some point along the way, it makes for wild adventures in driving. I was so close to the place I needed to go for about an hour but kept getting turned around due to traffic and streets I didn’t know very well. Once I finally got there I may have gotten a little excited and bough a big box of plants! Oops!
I love this guy with the huge leaves, I almost bought a BIG version of him, but decided for half the price, the little one was way better.
The original reason I was actually looking for plants was that I decided I wanted to build a terrarium for the first time. I decided I wanted one with succulents to put on my desk at work. I bought a teeny glass fishbowl and some little animal toys with the plan of making a tiny jungle. The animals where WAY too big, so I had to make do without them. Apart from that it was pretty simple process; rocks for drainage, moss, topsoil, plants = Terrarium! I even added my little glass deer I got from the Christmas Markets in Paris, but she’s a little lonely. I’ll have to find her a friend…
I have to admit, upon arriving at the nursery, I got a little carried away. I found so many awesome plants I wanted them all! I decided to make boyfriend one as well. His didn’t turn out so well…. like, not at all. He has this little wooden Japanese garden toy set I bought for him and was going to use as a centerpiece of his terrarium. He also LOVES Cacti, so I figured why not  put the two together?
Because it looks stupid, that’s why.It actually wasn’t a total disaster. After trying in vain to make him something I was happy with, I used part of the set, the cacti and the bonsai tree I bought him to make 2 little pots of cuteness that I actually like more than my terrarium!

There was so much love put into those pots. Do you know how hard it is (and how much it hurts) to re-pot a cactus?! And I did it repeatedly! lol That’s true love. Do you ever do that? Start one project and accidentally end up making something else that’s actually kind of better than  your original idea?

Well…. I’m still here, how about you? The 21st of May was supposed to be the end of the world, but thankfully it looks like it was a false alarm. Sorry for the lack of updates over the last couple of days, I’ve been feeling a little under the weather.

I mentioned a setback earlier in the week, but I’m pleased to announce that it was resolved in the nick of time. *phew* So I am very pleased to announce that the kittenbear store is open for business!

Not everything is up yet, I’ve had a few computer hiccups, so check back over the neck day or so for a couple of new goodies. More details tomorrow.
